Name: Timothy Biolsi
what area of the BX are you from?: Castle Hill
current location: Pelham Bay
Tim and I met back in 2011 through a mutual friend. We have this running joke that he's Calogero and I'm Jane from the movie, "A Bronx Tale" (LOL). Tim is madd down to earth and funny and it's so inspiring to see how he's leaving his mark in our community through service!
Tell us about yourself:
I am a product of poor decisions in my young adult years. I am someone who is taking all the lessons and teachings my poor decisions gave me and I am in the process of creating my own destiny, regardless. Persistency is my strongest characteristic.
What are your fondest memories of growing up in the Bronx?
Summertime on the block as a kid. The days were non-stop. I think we can all go back and reminisce on those days.
Do you feel as though being from the Bronx has heavily influenced who you are today?
I've always said that my exposure to all different cultures from a young age helped shaped who I am today. The Bronx as we all know, will introduce you to many different cultures and lifestyles in a 10-minute walk down the avenue. I am an Italian-American who knows how to order an empanada from the vendor in Spanish and whose favorite genre of music is Reggae. Like in the movie "A Bronx Tale", you want two educations, and one of them is from the streets. You can apply that toughness and street common sense to life to keep you safe anywhere. You can go anywhere in the world and you wont feel intimidated because you know where you're from.
Who are your biggest inspirations?
My parents- They have 10 children and make it happen for all of us.
What has been your greatest accomplishment to date?
Graduating from the New York City Fire Department EMS Academy.
If you could, in what ways would you give back to your community?
I am actually in the process of completing the details of a Guinness World Record Attempt for most Bone Marrow Registers in 24 Hours. We want to improve the registry numbers of those of Latino, African-American and Asian decent to give those affected with a blood disease a greater chance to find a match for a bone marrow transplant. Our register tables will be located all across New York City.
If someone were visiting the Bronx, where would you tell them to go?
1520 Sedgwick Ave. where Hip-Hop was birthed. The Bronx high key influenced the entire world.
