Destiny and I met while studying West African dance under her aunt's tutelage at Mind Builders Creative Arts Center. You could always find us playing double dutch on the sidewalk after class. She is one of the funniest people I've ever met and she stays dropping gems and bars on her IG!

Follow her as she spreads her #BlackGirlMagic.

Tell us about yourself

I’m a passionate, funny, down to earth bird that enjoys long walks to the train. The main goal is to change the world through activism and laughter. I want respect and common sense for everybody.

What are your fondest memories of growing up in the Bronx?

Dance practice outside in the park, the ponytail I had that was always mad high, and DOUBLE DUTCH!

Do you feel as though being from the Bronx has heavily influenced who you are today?

Absolutely! This is why I still call myself a bird.

The young, ratchet Destiny will always be a part of me. #BoogieDownBasicBird

Who are your biggest inspirations?

Cicely Tyson, Lauryn Hill, Issa Rae, Janelle Monae, Beyonce, young women (especially young women of color), my mother… Steve Urkel, and Penny Proud LOL.

What has been your greatest accomplishment to date?

Being invited to Michelle Obama’s United State of Women conference in Washington, D.C.!

If you could, in what ways would you give back to your community?

I’d want to open up a performing arts center in each underserved community. The youth have sooooo much potential. They just need the right outlets.

If someone were visiting the Bronx, where would you tell them to go?

The Jamaican bakery on 226th and White Plains Rd, and Flavas near Yankee Stadium (their oxtail is popppinnn!!). Pelham Parkway is also lit, literally (that was corny, but I’m still gonna say it). Go there only during the wintertime though. Their light show is dope.
